Jorge Martins and Michelle Wood

We met on a bus when Michelle was backpacking in Jorge’s native Portugal around 20 years ago. Since then we’ve travelled extensively around Australia, Europe and South America, and lived and worked in outback Queensland and Cairns for the past 13 years. Land Rover ‘tragics’, we love the outdoors and enjoy camping, 4WD and getting off the beaten track.

Jorge is a photographer and talented cook, with 35 years experience in hospitality and tourism. His specialty is bush cooking and he really knows his way around a camp oven. He speaks fluent English, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian and conversational French.

Michelle is an environmental scientist and writer, with a professional background in natural resource management. She loves to weave stories around the people and landscapes of north Queensland.

As travellers we know what makes a great tour experience. While we understand that many people are drawn to our region for the Great Barrier Reef, we’re passionate about sharing the many other unique things to see, do and experience beyond the Reef. So we started Your Trails Tours as an alternative to mass tourism for visitors to tropical north Queensland who want a more satisfying, authentic, sustainable experience of its natural and cultural landscapes.

We choose the most comfortable vehicles with the lowest carbon emissions in their class, minimise waste (particularly single use plastics), and use local suppliers and businesses wherever possible to cut down food miles and support our regional economy.
